Women?s Basketball Edges Atlantic Cape in Thrilling 60-58 Victory
Mays Landing, NJ – The Bergen Community College Women's Basketball team pulled off an electrifying 60-58 win against Atlantic Cape Community College in a closely contested game on January 9, 2025. The Bulldogs showcased tenacity and teamwork to clinch the victory on the road.
Bergen's victory was powered by standout performances from key players:
- Jacqueline Caraballo led the team with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Her efficiency from beyond the arc (3-for-6) and at the free-throw line (7-for-10) proved critical in the tight contest.
- Ashly Urquia contributed 17 points, including five three-pointers, and collected 10 rebounds, marking a strong two-way performance.
- Sonja Syla demonstrated her versatility with 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, anchoring the team on both ends of the court.
The game was a tale of persistence. After trailing 15-9 in the first quarter, Bergen rallied with a dominant 22-point second quarter to take the lead. The Bulldogs faced a late-game push by Atlantic Cape but held firm in the final moments to secure the win.
"Our team showed incredible heart and determination," said Head Coach Pekarsky. "From executing plays under pressure to fighting for every rebound, this was a true team effort."
Bergen outshot Atlantic Cape from three-point range, hitting 53.3% of their attempts, compared to Atlantic Cape's 24.1%. Defensive efforts were also key, as the Bulldogs forced 16 turnovers while limiting Atlantic Cape's scoring opportunities.
The Bulldogs will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for they host RCSJ Cumberland on 1/11 @ 12PM.
