Women’s Soccer Falls to Ocean County College in Tough 5-0 Loss
Toms River, NJ- The Bergen Community College women's soccer team faced a challenging road matchup against Ocean County College on Saturday, resulting in a 5-0 loss. Despite a strong effort by the Bulldogs, the Vikings took control early and maintained their momentum throughout the match.
Ocean County College opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a goal from Natalie Christie, assisted by Erin Cox. The Vikings quickly doubled their lead just three minutes later when Erin Cox found the back of the net, assisted by Alyssa Maisano, bringing the score to 2-0. Bergen's defense, led by goalkeepers Olly Arango and Jackie Carabello, fought hard to keep the Vikings at bay, but a third goal just before halftime by Alyssa Duff, assisted by Danna Katherine Carr, gave Ocean County a commanding 3-0 lead going into the break.
In the second half, Ocean County continued to press their advantage. Alyssa Maisano scored in the 60th minute, with another assist from Carr, and Leilani Borges capped off the scoring in the 65th minute, assisted by Christie, making the final score 5-0.
Despite the result, Bergen Community College displayed resilience. Goalkeeper Jackie Caraballo made 5 saves in the first half, while Olly Arango tallied 8 saves in the second half, combining for an impressive 13 saves over the course of the match. However, the relentless attack from Ocean County, which totaled 22 shots (18 on target), proved too much for the Bulldogs' defense.
Bergen struggled offensively, failing to register a shot on goal, as Ocean County's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Madison Todd, kept the Bulldogs' attack at bay.
The Bulldogs will look to bounce back in their upcoming game against Middlesex at home on Tuesday the 24th.
