Men’s Basketball Battles in High-Energy Matchup Against Passaic County Community College
Passaic, NJ – The Bergen Community College Bulldogs men's basketball team put on a spirited display in a hard-fought matchup against Passaic County Community College (PCCC) on Tuesday night. Despite a valiant effort and standout performances, the Bulldogs fell short with a final score of 96-82.
The game saw intense action from start to finish, with Bergen taking a narrow lead into halftime, 43-41. However, PCCC surged in the second half with a strong offensive push, outscoring the Bulldogs 55-39 in the final 20 minutes.
Leading the charge for Bergen was Amire Walker, who tallied 19 points, including three three-pointers, and added five assists in 37 minutes on the floor. Evan Meberg dominated the boards, recording a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Demetrius Chavis II electrified off the bench with 18 points on an efficient 7-for-12 shooting, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs demonstrated strong shooting from the free-throw line, converting at an impressive 81.8%, and kept their turnovers to a manageable 15. Their resilience on the court reflected their commitment to teamwork and hustle, as seen in their 34 rebounds and eight steals.
Despite their efforts, PCCC capitalized on their shooting accuracy, finishing with a field goal percentage of 52.6%. Keymani Nevers led PCCC with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Shindon Thompson added 16 points and four assists.
"This game showed our players' determination and ability to compete at a high level," said Coach Luke Gomez. "While the result wasn't in our favor, there are many positives to take away as we continue to grow as a team."
