Women's Soccer Looking To Make A Run For Post-Season Play.
Paramus, NJ- 2015 Women's Soccer team has had a rough start to the season with a 2-5 record. They have an overall record of 2-5, but their region record is 1-1, which puts them in the hunt for a spot in the Region XIX Tournament.
The team began the season by traveling to Herkimer, NY for a tournament that left them 0-2 versus two top 10 ranked teams in the nation. The team came back home with a sense of urgency and a great a experience. The Bulldogs have a record of 2-3 since the tournament and have losses versus two Division I teams. The Bulldogs still have a great opportunity to turn their season around and they know it.
The Bergen brings back four key sophomores from last years playoff team. They look to lead the team the rest of the way. Sophomore, Ashley Batir (One Goal), is an experienced midfielder who is very good at challenging opponents for the ball. Bianca Torales (2 Goals & 1 Assist) brings fleet foot skills to the forward postion and puts pressure on the defense on long balls. Glorimar Morel (3 Goals & 3 Assists) had raw talent last year and has improved her skills tremendously and will be strong piece to the puzzle. Irene Estrada has been sidlined for most of the season, but looks to return to strength the defense.
Freshmen show promise and will be a very important part of this years success. Top freshmen are: Amanda Kneppel who has four goals this season and has brought a lot a fire power to the offense. Marisa Santo also brings a punch for the offense and has contributed with two goals and one assist. The midfield showcases Katherine Sigalas and Kristen Gray, who both have showed there ability to control the ball. The defense has had two shutouts on the season. The defense has freshmen Amanda Molina, Caroline Seminario Sofia Galindo and Tara Lucas brought their defensive skills and knowledge to hold those shutouts. Goalie Michelina Chermark has brought her hand-eye coordination to the goalie position and has made it tough to score on her.
New additions may be the boost that the women's team needs to get hot and turn this season around. The new additions have brought a lot of promise and experience and have showed it during the loss to Division I Sussex. Though the team lost, the team showed that they can compete at a high level and pressured Sussex many times during the contest. Top additions are Nicolle Jaramillo who brings height and strength to the defense. Serena Baluyut & Samantha Schatz have brought speed, experience and skill to the offense and will make players previously mentioned more dominent. Melissa Saenz brings here defensive skills to Bergen and has helped the team be more versitile.
Look for the Bulldogs to get back on track and get to the post-season. The team is quickly learning to play to together and wil be a purple machine by the time the post-season starts. Go Bulldogs!!!
