Cherie Smedile Breaks All-Time BCC Points Record
Cherie Smedile Breaks All-time BCC Points Scored Record on the last game of the regular season versus Westchester CC.
Paramus, NJ - Bergen's Women's basketball continues to add to their milestones. Bergen recently won their 20th game of the season for the first time in over 20 years and is looking forward to a high seeding in the region tournament. Earlier this year, Head Coach Tracy Green won her 100th game, sophomore guard Cherie Smedile broke 1,000 points, and legendary coach Rose Battaglia had been inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
Women's Basketball has added another feather to its cap this season when Cherie Smedile broke the all-time points scored record on the last game of the regular season. Cherie needed 16 points to tie the record and 17 points to break the points scored record that was set over 40-years ago by Karen Smith. Karen Smith finished her career under hall of fame coach Rose Battaglia and scored 1,179 points. Cherie broke the record in the second half of the game versus Westchester with a three pointer and Coach Green decided to take her out of the game to have her healthy for the playoffs. Her total for the night was 18 points and has set a career total and Bergen CC record of 1,181 points. The point total continues in the playoffs, so she can go on to add more points to her career total.
Congrats to Cherie Smedile and the team for having such as successful season and having it be go down in history with this great achievement.
