RCGC ends Bergen's season in first round
Paramus, NJ - Bergen's softball team traveled to RCGC for a first round best of three series. Bulldogs were not able to come up with a win as they were swept by the scores of 6-2 and 17-2.
Bergen still had a successful season in all, as they finished with an overall record of 12-8 and 10-8 in the region. The team was ranked 26th in the nation in runs scored (149). They were also ranked 25th in doubles (32) and 22nd in runs batted in (149).
Notable Players:
Linzi Reginald who recently earned second team All-GSAC (Pitcher) had a record of 6-2 on the season. She also was a great utility player for the Bulldogs and batted .348 on the season with nine doubles, 22 runs scored and 27 RBIs.
Stephanie Ramos led the team with her first base defense and her high batting average of .357. She also had 15 runs scored and 13 RBI.
Brianne Tunick, Bergen's second baseman, played outstanding defense that secured the defense up the middle. Brianne had a batting average of .311 with 15 runs scored and 12 RBI.
Brianna Montenegro was a huge addition to the Bulldogs lineup and defense. She played both centerfield and shortstop for the Bulldogs. She had a team high of 27 runs scored and led the team in steals (7) which carried the team throughout the year.
Kara Woegens will be a major loss for the Bulldogs as her catching skills and leadership was the hallmark of the team the past two seasons. She did everything on the field including steal bases, score runs, drive in runs and throw out base runners. Kara had 17 runs scored and 12 RBI on the season.
Ashley Figueroa supplied the major pop in the Bulldog lineup by hitting seven doubles and two homers. The homers came at the end of the season when Bergen was still looking to make the playoffs. Ashley was big in the clutch as she drove in 24 runners on the season. Her outstanding defense at the hot corner (3RD Base) was crucial for the pitching staff.
Sarah Brading gave the Bulldogs a second starter and was a notable reason why the Bulldogs finished high in the standings. Sarah pitched 34 innings and had a record of 3-1 with 3 complete games and 24 Ks. Sarah was also a big bat in the lineup as she scored 16 times and drove in 20 RBI.
Megan Hamlett was the third pitcher on the Bulldogs staff and was a big contributor both on the mound and at the plate. Megan pitched 21 innings and a complete game for Bergen. She was also used as a utility player that helped Coach Gilbride mix and match.
Michelina Chermark was the left fielder for Bergen and showed signs of things to come. Chermark showed her hustle and determination on the field. She looks to be a one of the top returners for 2016.
Melissa Reimann will also be missed as she was a big support both on the field and off for Bergen. Melissa also helped Coach Mallorie with her positive attitude and leadership the past two years.
Chelsea Finley was a big part of the puzzle for the Bulldogs. She strengthened the outfield by playing solid defense. On offense, she led the team with seven sacrifice hits that led to important runs throughout the season.
