Bergen's Sold Starting Pitching Staff
Bergen lost the three game series to Cumberland 1-2, despite great performances by their starting pitching staff.
Paramus, NJ - Bergen Bulldogs came out ready to play #1 Cumberland last weekend for a three game series at Cumberland. Bergen lost the three games series 1-2, but showed that they can compete versus the #1 DIII ranked team in the nation. Bergen was also ranked #5 in the nation for the first time in school history. Recap of the three game series is below:
Game 1 vs. Cumberland - Cumberland won 6-1. Sophomore pitcher, Jose Sierra, pitched 7 strong innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits. Offensively, Dylan Habeeb hit a homerun in the top of the first and Evan Geisler had two hits, which included a double.
Game 2 vs. Cumberland - Bergen won 4-1. Freshman, Aryed Garcia, continues to impress winning his third game of the year. He pitched 5.1 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 7 batters. Sophomore, Cristian Garcia earned his first save of the year going 1.2 innings allowing 1 hit and a strike out. Jonnathan Cepeda was perfect on the day going 3-3 with a run scored. Dylan Habeeb and Mikal Trice both had a hit and an RBI.
Game 3 vs. Cumberland - Bergen loses 2-1. Despite the loss, Jeremie Torres pitched a complete game allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 3. He made one bad pitch to Dylan Scaranda for a walk-off homerun that cost the Bulldogs the chance to win the series. Jonnathan Cepeda continued his big day going 2-4 with a double. Dylan Habeeb and Joseph Mitchell added a pair of hits.
Bergen will host Luzerne on Sunday, March 25 at 1pm for a double header.
