BERGEN VS. CUMBERLAND THREE GAME SERIES
Bergen Bulldogs get swept by Cumberland County College 3-0.
Paramus, NJ - Bergen Community College continue to play their conference schedule versus nationally ranked #2 Cumberland County College. Cumberland Dukes, who before they played Bergen, had a record of 33-3, continued their success by sweeping the Bulldogs. Bergen had high hopes to be able to take a few games from Cumberland, but were not able to get a win. They were close in the second game, but lost in walk off fashion.
First game of the series saw sophomore, Chris Martucci (2-3) take the mound and struggled to get through 3 innings, allowing 7 H, 5 Runs, 5 ER and 2 BB. Unfortunately, the bullpen did not fare much better versus The Dukes bats. Bergen lost the game 14-1 to start the series. Julio Acosta and Joseph Mitchell had a pair of hits each.
Second game of the series was a nail biter compared to the first game. Sophomore, Brayan Rodriguez (0-3), had a great start holding Cumberland to two runs in 6 innings and 4K. A strong effort by Brayan and was relieved by Javier Made who lost the game after pitching two good innings before giving up the walk off hit.. Eamon Catherina had a big hit to drive in two Bulldogs, but the team lost in extra innings by the score of 4-3.
Third game and final game of the series at Cumberland was not any better for the Bulldogs. Bergen was not able to take a lead as, Christian Cefalo (1-3) suffered his third loss of the season allowing 5 runs in 1.1 innings. Bergen's bullpen continued to struggle giving up 8 runs the rest of the way. Bergen's offense still was not able to help, scoring only one run.
Bergen looks to bounce back as they start another three game series versus Union County College.
