Bergen vs. Brookdale Three Game Series
Bergen struggles to get a win against Brookdale in their first conference series of the year.
Paramus, NJ - Bergen Community College began their conference schedule versus nationally ranked #1 Brookdale CC. Brookdale, who before they played Bergen had a record of 16-2, continued their winning ways by defeating Bergen 3-0. Bergen had high hopes to be able to take a few games from Brookdale, but were not able to cool off Brookdale's offense. Bergen was swept in three games, but there were a lot of bright spots that the team will use and learn from the rest of the season.
First game of the series saw sophomore, Brayan Rodrigues (0-1) on the mound, who struggled and took the loss after pitching 3 innings allowing 4 H, 5 Runs and 4Ks. Chris Martucci came in and stopped the bleeding by pitching a solid 3 innings, allowing 4 H, 1 Run and 4 K versus one of the top offensive teams in the nation. Sway Russel continued his hot hitting streak by going 1-3 with a run scored. Unfortunately, Bergen lost by the score of 6-4.
Second game of the series was not what Bergen expected from the highly talented Jose Sierra (1-1). He only retired one batter and gave up nine runs in a blink of an eye. Bergen never recovered and only scored two runs. Chris Martucci and Justin Grippo both had two hits apiece and a run scored. Bergen lost by the score of 14-2.
Third game and final game of the series at Bergen was not any better for the Bulldogs. Bergen was not able to take a lead as, Wander Jimenez (2-2) suffered his second loss of the season allowing 10 runs in three innings. Stephen Fedak came in and slowed things down by pitching three innings and allowing only one run on three hits. Bergen's offense was dim as they only scored one run on two hits.
Bergen looks to bounce back as they start another three game set today at Camden County College.
