Bergen Wins Series from Brookdale
Bergen wins Series from Brookdale 2-1 and continues to land on the NJCAA Top 10 Polls.
Paramus, NJ - Bergen Baseball continues to have a strong season as they took 2 of 3 games from region rivals Brookdale Jersey Blues. The NJCAA poll dropped Bergen from 4 to 6 in the latest Top 10 poll, despite winning a series versus a very tough opponent. Bergen overall record is now 13-4 and a region record of 7-3.
First game at Brookdale - Bergen Loss 18-0- Bergen's Jose Sierra had to deal with a tough environment at Brookdale, which included the weather. Sierra could not find the plate and surrendered 7 walks and 7 runs in one inning. Jake Ursillo & Christian Cefalo came in relief and they were hit for 11 runs in 5 innings. Offense did not help the cause by getting shutout and only getting three hits on the day.
Second game at Bergen - Bergen Wins 4-3 - Bergen's Aryed Garcia continues to impress by winning his fourth game of the year after pitching 6.1 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 ER 2BB and striking out 5 batters. Christian Garcia earned his second save of the year after coming in the relief with one out and a man on second. He struck out the first batter he faced, then walked the first batter. With a count of 1-1, Christian was able to get a grounder to second to force the runner at second and win the game.
Offensively, the team was down one run after the top of the first, but Bergen struck back after putting two men on base and sophomore, Mikal Trice came to the plate to begin a big day for him. He shelled a three run blast that kept Bergen ahead throughout the game. Johnnathan Cepeda added a hit that drove in Kelvin Cruz after a double for the winning run.
Third Game at Bergen - Bergen Wins 13-6- The bats were at high heat going into the second game. Evan Geisler and Mikal Trice had huge homeruns to tie the game and put the game away for Bergen. Evan Geisler was 2-3 with a homerun and 4 RBI. Mikal Trice added a 3-4 game with a homerun and two RBI. Trice ended the day going 5-7 with two homers and 5 RBI. Joseph Mitchell was perfect in the last game, going 4-4 with two doubles and a triple. Dylan Habeeb and Kelvin Puello both had two hit and two runs apiece.
Bergen will now host Union County College on Friday, April 6 at 3:30pm to begin a three game series versus the region rivals.
