Bergen vs. RCGC Three Game Series
Bergen Bulldogs get swept by Rowan College at Gloucester County 3-0.
Paramus, NJ - Bergen Community College continue to play their conference schedule versus nationally ranked #4 Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC). RCGC, who before they played Bergen, had a record of 21-4, continued their success by sweeping the Bulldogs. Bergen had high hopes to be able to take a few games from RCGC, but were not able get a run across in two of the three games.
First game of the series saw sophomore, Chris Martucci (1-1) take the mound and struggled to get through 2 innings, allowing 8 H, 9 Runs, 6 ER and 2 BB. Martucci did have a good game at the plate by going 1-2 with 2 runs scored. The bullpen came in and was not able to stop RCGC's hit parade. Bergen lost the game 21-4 to start the series. Sway Russel continued his hot hitting streak by going 1-3 with a RBI.
Second game of the series was going to be a comeback from the first game. Sophomore, Brayan Rodriguez (0-3), had a great start holding RCGC to one run in 6 innings. A valiant effort by Brayan, until he began to get tired in the 7th inning, where he gave up 5 runs before the bullpen could come in and close the inning. Chris Fernandez and John Calabrese both had two hits apiece as Bergen lost by the score of 6-0.
Third game and final game of the series at Bergen was not any better for the Bulldogs. Bergen was not able to take a lead as, Wander Jimenez (2-3) suffered his third loss of the season allowing 5 runs in 3.2 innings. Bergen's bullpen continued to struggle giving up 12 runs the rest of the way. Bergen's offense still could not get any offense going and were shutout. John Calabrese had two more hits on the game, which gave him a 4 for 6 day at the plate.
Bergen looks to bounce back as they start another three game set tomorrow, as the host at another ranked team #2 Cumberland County College.
