Bergen Travels to Maryland
Bergen finishes their Maryland by winning 3 of the 4 games to start the season.
Paramus, NJ, Bergen Baseball began its season on a Spring trip to Maryland. They played both Prince George CC and Dundalk over a weekend. Bergen swept Dundalk on Saturday, March 4th and split with Prince George on Sunday, March 5th.
First game of the double header between Bergen and Dundalk was won by Bergen. Bergen won by a score of 13-1 and having 12 hits in 5 innings. Freshman, Wander Jimenez (Englewood, NJ), pitched a 5 innings for a complete game. This win was Wander's first collegiate win and allowed only 1 run on six hits and 5 strikeouts.
Chris Martucci (Ridgefield, NJ) - 3-4 with 2 runs and 4 RBI
Sway Russell (Newark, NJ) - 2-2 with 2 runs and 1 RBI
Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, NJ) - 2-3 with 1 run and 3 RBI
Yefry Ramirez (Paterson, NJ) - 2-3 with 3 runs and 2 RBI
Second game of the double header was won by Bergen. Bergen won in the final inning by the score of 4-3. Freshman, Jose Sierra (Hackensack) pitched a 5 inning game with 12 strikeouts, 2 hits and 1 run allowed. Stephen Fedak (Bridgewater, NJ) finished the game and received the win after pitching 2 innings and striking out 3. Eamon Catherina (Ridgefield, NJ) went 1 for 4 with a run and RBI. Eamon made an amazing diving catch in leftfield to save a big inning and keep the game at 4-3.
Bergen then traveled to Prince George for the first game of a double header. Sophomore, Chris Martucci, took the mound and won his first game of the year. He pitched 7 innings for a complete game. Chris allowed 2ER, 6 H, 3BB and 7K and helped his cause at the plate going 2-4. Julio Acosta continued his hot hitting going 2-4 with 2 runs & 3 stolen bases. Justin Grippo (Mahway, NJ) had a huge Game winning RBI Triple to pull ahead.
Bergen did not do to well in the second game of the doubleheader. They lost their final game of the Maryland trip by the score of 13-8. Bergen still had some good hitting performances from Sophomore, Fernando Santana (Hackensack, NJ) & Eamon Catherina, they both went 1-1 with 2 runs, a walk and a double.
